Accommodation

Homestay

Most of our students choose to stay in a homestay organised by Kiwi English Academy. Students live with a New Zealand family and are treated like part of the family. They have their own room (a shared room can be arranged if requested). Living with a host family gives students the chance to practise English in a natural, native speaking environment and experience life with a typical New Zealand family. Some host families have children, others are adults only. Sometimes there are other international students living with the homestay family. Students have breakfast and dinner on weekdays, and breakfast, lunch and dinner on the weekends. Homestays are usually located within 30 minutes travel time of Kiwi English Academy.

Students who are under 18 years old must stay in a Kiwi English homestay (unless they are living with relatives).

Cost:
Approx. $200.00 per week for a single room.

Hostel

Some students over the age of 18 choose to live in a hostel with other international and local students of a similar age. There are several hostels available to Kiwi English Academy students, offering either single or shared rooms. Hostels are popular. Therefore please apply early - at least 12 (twelve) weeks prior to course commencement. Cooking facilities are available in hostels. Some also offer meals. Students choosing to live in hostels normally travel to school by bus.

Cost:
From $150.00 per week (room only)
From $50.00 per week for food

Flatting

Some students choose to go “flatting” with their friends. They will usually rent a house with 3 or 4 other students and share their living costs. The KiwiCare staff are happy to offer advice on “flatting” - from rental agreements to buying second hand furniture - but they do not arrange flats for students. The costs of “flatting” are often higher then students expect – flats may need furniture (example, a bed, TV, etc) and students are responsible for power, water and phone costs in addition to the rent.

Cost:
From $100.00 per week (room only)
From $ 50.00 per week for food
From $ 40.00 per week for expenses (example power,
        water and phone)
